KONAMI's METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS received an Excellence Prize in the Entertainment Division at the awards presentation ceremony for The 11th Japan Media Arts Festival. The awards presentation ceremony was held at the Tokyo Midtown Hall in Minato-ku, Tokyo on Tuesday, February 5, 2008.
The Japan Media Arts Festival aims at promoting media arts, a new form of expression, and consists of Art, Entertainment, Animation and Manga divisions. One Grand Prize, four Excellence Prizes and one Encouragement Prize are awarded to works of high artistic quality and creativity in each division. The Entertainment Division focuses on works of entertainment, such as games, electronic play equipments and visual images employing digital technology.
The Metal Gear series won an Excellence Prize in the Digital Art (Interactive Art) Division in 1998 and was recommended by the festival selection jury in 2001, 2004 and 2005.
