KONAMI's online action game, METAL GEAR ONLINE, has surpassed the total of 1 million accounts worldwide in its first four months since the service started in June, 2008.

To celebrate this achievement, Konami will launch a campaign called "METAL GEAR ONLINE Tops 1 Million Accounts Worldwide! Commemoration Campaign," on Tuesday, November 25 for users all across the world.

METAL GEAR ONLINE (PLAYSTATION®Network) is an online game allows players to battle with up to 16 people at the same time. Some of the new original stages are added to METAL GEAR ONLINE, retaining the original gameplay world and controls of METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS (MGS4), an action game carrying an antiwar and antinuclear theme to society.

The new system, which is only possible online, is employed in METAL GEAR ONLINE. The system enables players to strengthen their cooperation with other players and purchase accessories and items for their characters with the points called "rewards" that they receive depending on the results of the battle.

The online service was initially started with the Starter Pack packaged with METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS bundle simultaneously released throughout the world on June 12, 2008, followed by an individual pack, METAL GEAR ONLINE, released on Thursday, July 17.

The expansion pack, which adds new characters, maps and gameplay modes to an existing game, is on sale at the MGO online shop. The first edition, "GENE EXPANSION" was released on July 17, 2008, and the second pack, "MEME EXPANSION" is planned to be released this November.
