Online Mode FAQ

Q:Is the network mode compatible with ISDN or Dial-up connections?
A:No.
Q:I have a broadband router. Can it be used to play network mode?
A:Yes, but with some routers or modem-routers, you will need to configure its network settings using a PC.
Q:Can I play network mode using a Wireless LAN connection?
A:While it may be technically possible, we do not recommend its use as it will be more difficult to maintain a quality connection. We also regret to inform you that we can offer no support for any connectivity issues for Wireless LAN and that customers use such equipment at their own risk.
Q:Can I play network mode when I am on Cable TV Internet?
A:Yes, but some service providers may be incompatible.
Q:I live in an appartment which is internet ready. Can I use this connection to play network mode?
A:Yes, but there may be exceptions.
Q:My line is fast enough, but why am I experiencing lag? Some players are also teleporting.
A:This could be down to your opponent's line quality. Try playing against another opponent. Or alternatively, you can try playing at different times or in Quick Matches. If you are using a Wireless LAN connection, we recommend you switch to a fixed connection.
Q:Is there a way to check line quality while in game?
A:Yes. Look to the bottom right of the Player Number Marker. There is a round icon which changes colour from Green, to Yellow then Red depending on line quality.
: Good
You should be able to play without any real problems.
: Average
Under certain circumstances, you may experience lag . Players may sometimes appear to teleport.
: Bad
It may be possible to play a 2 player game, but with frequent lag and teleporting.
: No Communication
This icon will be shown if no communications have come in from your opponent for a while.
Disclaimer: The icon colour is not a guarantee of your line quality.
Q:In Network Mode, is it possible to play against players who play the game on a platform other than a PLAYSTATION®3?
A:No, you cannot play against XBOX 360 users or PC users on either of the "Network" or "Legends" Modes.
Q:Can I use edited players in Network Mode?
A:No, edited players cannot be used.
Q:Does it cost me anything to play the Network Mode?
A:No, the Network service for the PLAYSTATION®3 version is provided free of charge.
* However, please note that you will need to pay separate charges to your internet service provider. For details, please refer to your User-ISP agreement.
Q:On "Network" and "Legends" Modes, I'm get this message saying "Invalid or outdated Server Certificate" and can't login. Why?
A:Please check whether the time on your PLAYSTATION®3 has been set correctly. This may solve your problem.
Q:In both Network and Legends Modes, my ranking is just shown as --- and won't change in any way. Why is this?
A:Unfortunately this occurs when a player's courtesy level has been deemed too low. Once it has recovered sufficiently, the rankings will be displayed again.
Q:When trying to play Network Mode, I get this message saying that I can't communicate through "UDP XXXX". What causes this?
A:It's possible that the security settings of either your network or router are set up to block communications between the client and the server when trying to play "PES 2009".
"PES 2009" uses the below ports.

PLAYSTATION(R)3
TCP: 30000-30140
UDP: 3478, 3658, 5730-5739
HTTP: 80
HTTPS: 443

PC
TCP: 20000-20140
UDP: 3478, 5730-5739

XBOX360
Depends on the "XboxLIVE!" service settings.
For details on "Xbox LIVE!" or how to connect your Xbox 360 to the internet using a broadband connection, please refer to http://www.xbox.com/.

Once you have checked your network settings, you will need to set up your router and open the above mentioned ports.
If you still have problems connecting despite opening the relevant ports, please try connecting your console or PC directly to the modem as provided by your Internet Service Provider.
It is likely that your router was set up incorrectly if you can connect to our network by doing as above.
* Please refer to the manual provided with your router or consult its manufacturer on how to open the necessary ports.
Q:Can I delete player data I created while playing "Network Mode" or "Legends Mode"?
A:Yes, but you will need to wait until some time after the data was newly created (a week or more) to do this.
